Salvation

SALVATION

WHY DO I NEED JESUS CHRIST?

“And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.” – John 6:35

In this life, there is nothing more important than being born again of the Spirit of God, to know that you are saved from eternal death and judgment, and that you have the assurance that you are going to Heaven when you die because you have been born into His family and are able to experience God’s forgiveness, peace and power.

This has all been freely provided by grace through the atoning sacrifice of His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, on the cross of Calvary. This is the gospel (or the good news) proclaimed by the angels at His birth some 2,000 years ago and preached throughout the entire world until this day. He did it because He loves you and does not want you to be lost forever in Hell.

“Jesus said unto him, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man comes unto the Father, but by Me.” – John 14:6

Jesus Christ also told a story in the Bible of a man that went to Hell. Hell is real just as much as Heaven is. Hell was not created for man, but for the devil and his angels. You do not have to go there! You do not want to go there!

Luke 16:19-31: “There was a certain rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen, and feasted sumptuously every day: And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, who was laid at his gate, full of sores, And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died and was buried; And in Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and seeing Abraham far off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

But Abraham said, Son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and you are tormented. And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they who would pass from here to you cannot; neither can they pass to us that would come from there. Then he said, I pray you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father’s house: For I have five brothers; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. Abraham said unto him: They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, No, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him: if they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.”

Maybe you think you are a good person and do not need to be saved. Many have thought that, however being a good person will not save you; going to a church and belonging to a respectable denomination or group will not save you; doing good deeds (although good) will not save you either. Everyone has sinned and is guilty of judgment and death. The good news however, is that you can receive the free gift of life through Jesus Christ our Lord!

The Bible says that in order to be born again, a person must first repent of all sins and believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ calling upon His name, for there is no other name under Heaven whereby we can be saved:

Acts 4:10-12: “Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was rejected by you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

Romans 10:9-10: “That if thou shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shall be saved. For with the heart man believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

Romans 10:10: “For with the heart man believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

Romans 10:13: “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you do not know how to repent, here is a simple prayer model. Do not simply repeat it, but use as a model for your own personal conversion:

“Father forgive me of all my sins. I know that I am sinner who has broken your laws and commandments. I am guilty of death and hell, however today I turn away from sin and my past sinful life. Please forgive me and help me to walk in purity and righteousness. I believe that your only begotten son, Jesus Christ willingly died for me on the cross of Calvary, and that He was buried and resurrected from the dead on the third day and ascended into glory. I believe He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I surrender my life to you and make you my Lord and Savior. I give you permission to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. Come into my life and fill me with your Spirit in Jesus’ Holy Name.”

If you have repented of your sins and received Jesus Christ into your heart, you will feel different and clean. That is because the blood of Jesus Christ has washed you from all sin and taken that burden off you. However, although that is a wonderful thing you have done, now you must be baptized in water and be filled with His Holy Spirit:

Acts 2:37-39: “Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their hearts, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles: men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.”

The Lord bless you, and keep you:

The Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious unto you:

The Lord lift His countenance upon you, and give you the peace that passes all understanding, through Christ Jesus.

Amen and Amen
